The Fort Wayne Komets spent the weekend on the road as they looked to extend their points streak. The weekend began on Friday with a matchup against the division foe Kalamazoo Wings. Saturday wouldn’t prove much easier as they again faced a division rival, this time in the form of the Cincinnati Cyclones.

Game Recaps:

Friday, January 26th: Fort Wayne Komets @ Kalamazoo Wings

The Komets looked to get off to a quick start on Friday and they did just that with a goal by Xavier Cormier (assisted by Jake Chiasson) four minutes into the first period. Not to be outdone, the Wings responded with a first period goal of their own just over a minute later. The Komets would go on to be out shot the rest of the opening period, however the period would end with no other goals scored by either team.

The Wings were the first team to draw blood in the second period with a goal by Cody Milan less than three minutes in. This time it was the Komets that answered with a goal by Carl Berglund (assisted by Jack Dugan and Martin Haš). Much like the first period, period number two would go the rest of the distance without another goal leaving the game tied at two goals a piece.

The third and final period is where the Komets pulled away. The Komets scored three goals in total (Cameron Supryka, Alexis D’Aoust and Jack Gorniak) to give them a a 5-3 lead. Tyler Parks did not allow a single goal in the final period with nine of his 25 saves coming over that time.

Final Score: Komets 5, Wings 2

Saturday January 27th: Fort Wayne Komets @ Cincinnati Cyclones

The second divisional matchup for the Komets got off to a much slower start. The Komets drew first blood with a goal by Alexis D’Aoust (assisted by Nolan Volcan and Xavier Cormier) half way through the opening period. Neither team scored again until 16 minutes into period number two when the Komets added to their lead with a goal by Ethan De Jong (assisted by Carl Berglund and Jack Duggan).

Ryan Fanti was the star of the game for the Komets. He finished his shutout converting all 23 save opportunities on the day. Included in the shutout were four penalty kills for the Komets which extends their streak to 18 power plays killed.

Final Score: Komets 2, Cyclones 0
